Medical Coding
Medical Coding is a great career opportunity for a person who wants to work in the healthcare industry, but does not want to do hands on patient care. Medical coders work behind the scenes – the business side of healthcare. A Professional Coder is detail oriented and works well doing research.
Each time a patient receives treatment, a detailed record is maintained containing observations, medical or surgical interventions and treatment outcomes. Coders are responsible for assigning a code to each specific diagnosis or procedure. They consult classification manuals but also rely on their acquired knowledge of disease processes.
