Medical coding professionals play a vital role across the healthcare industry!
Each time a patient receives treatment, a detailed record is maintained. Coders are then responsible for assigning a code(s) to each specific diagnosis or procedure and ensuring that the information is communicated clearly, accurately and efficiently between healthcare providers and insurance payers.
In the Kentucky Online Medical Coding program, students will learn about the business side of healthcare, the human body, and its diseases and cover ICD-10-CM coding, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding.

Student Disclosure Notice – Program Specific Warning
At its January 2024 meeting, ABHES reviewed outcomes for ATA College’s (Kentucky) Medical Professional: Medical Assisting – Associate of Occupational Science and Medical Professional: Medical Coding – Associate of Occupational Science programs. ABHES requires institutions to demonstrate at least a 70% retention and placement rate for all programs. Because ATA College outcomes for both programs have been reported below the required rates, ABHES placed ATA College (Kentucky) on Program Specific Warning to take corrective action and provide additional information to the Commission. Additionally, all programs placed on Program Specific Warning are required to submit a Teach-Out Plan in the event it is needed as well as publish a student disclosure notice.
